Your data is stored using the following services:
| Data Type | Storage |

Passwords are hashed using bcrypt before storage. Email verification codes are also hashed. We do not store passwords or verification codes in plain text.
Campus selection may also be stored on your device so the feed stays filtered when you reopen the app.
5. Third-Party Services
Nomad uses the following third-party services to operate the Platform:
5.1 Stripe
We use Stripe to process payments, hold funds until pickup or owner acceptance, collect rental security deposits, pay sellers and vehicle owners, and save payment methods. Your payment information is collected and processed by Stripe under Stripe's Privacy Policy. We do not store full credit card numbers on our servers.
5.2 Amazon Web Services (AWS)
We use AWS S3 to store images and videos you upload, including profile photos, listing images, walkaround media, identity documents, and dispute evidence. We also use AWS Rekognition to scan uploaded images for prohibited content as part of moderation (see Section 6).
5.3 Email (SendGrid)
We use SendGrid to send transactional emails such as verification codes, password resets, and booking-related notices. We do not send marketing or promotional emails.
5.4 Expo / Apple / Google
If you enable notifications, we send push messages through Expo, which may deliver them via Apple or Google. App distribution may also involve Apple App Store / TestFlight or Google Play.
6. Content Moderation
To maintain a safe platform, Nomad uses automated and human review:
- Text moderation: Listing titles, descriptions, and messages may be scanned against prohibited terms. Flagged content can be placed in a review queue for moderators.
- Image moderation: Uploaded images may be scanned using AWS Rekognition. Flagged images can be placed in a review queue.
- Message monitoring: Messages may be reviewed by administrators to investigate reports, prevent fraud, or enforce platform rules.
- Admin tools: Authorized staff can review listings, users, rentals, payments, reports, licenses, walkaround media, and deposit claims.
7. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
We may share limited information in the following circumstances:
- With other users: Your username, profile photo, ratings, listing information, and (for rentals) relevant booking details are visible as needed to complete a transaction. Chat is visible to the other participant. Vehicle owners and renters may see walkaround media and deposit-claim materials for that booking. License documents are collected for rental eligibility and may be reviewed by administrators; they are not published as public listings.
- With service providers: Stripe, AWS, SendGrid, and Expo, as described in Section 5.
- For legal compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Nomad, our users, or the public.
8. Data Retention
- Account data: Retained for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your user record is removed from our database, subject to records we must keep for payments, disputes, or law.
- Email verification codes: Automatically expire after 15 minutes.
- Payment event logs: Automatically deleted after 30 days where our systems are configured to do so.
- Messages, listings, bookings, and transaction records: Retained while your account is active, and longer if needed to complete payouts, refunds, deposit claims, or investigations.
- Identity documents, walkaround media, and deposit evidence: Retained as needed to operate rentals, resolve claims, and meet legal or payment-processor requirements.
